During the office ergonomic assessment, a certified ergonomic assessment specialist will analyze each employee and their work environment and implement customer-specific solutions to reduce discomfort.
The Office Ergonomic Assessment Process:
Ergonomic Pre-screen
Before the onsite assessment, the ergonomic specialists will review employee injury and illness information. This will allow the ergonomic consultant to efficiently analyze the workstation on the day of the onsite assessment.
Onsite Ergonomic Evaluation:
During the onsite ergonomic assessment, the ergonomic specialist will analyze the employee’s behavior, office space, and equipment (i.e. desk, chair, computer, mouse). This will include a 10-15 minute interview with the employee to review job duties and work habits. Additionally, the ergonomic consultant will view each employee performing regular job duties to analyze and determine the source of discomfort. The specialist will make some body mechanic or environmental recommendations on the day of the assessment. However, the consultant will make most recommendations in the written ergonomic assessment report.
Written Ergonomic Assessment Report
Within a week of the onsite assessment, the ergonomic specialist will send the human resource officer or designated contact person a written summary. The summary will describe ergonomic problems and list solutions to decrease the risk of injury and/or discomfort at work. Solutions can include but are not limited to, environmental modifications, customized stretching and wellness strategies, and ergonomic equipment. When ergonomic equipment is recommended, the specialist will provide information and approximate pricing in the written report. (For more information about the ergonomic assessment, please see our ergonomic evaluation FAQ page.)
Ergonomic Revisit (per request/as needed)
If needed, the ergonomic consultant will return to the employee’s place of work to conduct an ergonomic revisit. Each ergonomic specialists will review the stretching plan, behavioral modifications, and appropriate use of ergonomic equipment. This will ensure maximum compliance with recommended changes. The specialist will create a second written and oral report to the human resource officer, administrators, and medical practitioner, as needed, to review the client’s progress.
The Benefits of an Ergonomic Assessment
Companies that have implemented a successful ergonomic program can reduce disability days between 10-35%. Research shows that companies who have implemented a successful ergonomic program can reduce turnover rates and improve return to work rates (Heller-Ono, 2014). Estimates range between two to three dollars saved for every dollar spent on an ergonomic program (Burton, 2007). Here at Ergonomics Advance, our certified ergonomic assessment specialists are here to improve the safety and comfort of each office employee.
